Dr. Joanie has been working at the Back to Health Center since 2009, specializing in Pain Management, as well as treating a wide range of conditions including allergies, A-Fib, migraines, and infertility.

Dr. Joanie has worked at the prestigious St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital in Savannah, GA, and in private practice in Sarasota, FL, where she graduated from the East West College of Natural Medicine.

She has worked in both Eastern and Western medicine for more than 30 years, as a medical writer for CBS/Medscape (now WebMD); Editorial Director at the former Lifetime Medical Television; as a Yoga therapist; and a Yoga and Tai Chi Instructor.

A native of South Africa, she obtained her certification from Virginia Learning Institute in 2002 and has since become a practitioner here in the Commonwealth. She specializes in therapeutic massage techniques, including Swedish, deep tissue, hot stone, sports, prenatal, cupping, manual lymphatic drainage, and pediatric massage (through Liddle Kidz®).

Passionate about helping others reach optimal wellness, René provides personalized care to each client, tailoring her treatments to address specific concerns and promote relaxation and healing. “With my warm and compassionate demeanor, I create a relaxing and rejuvenating experience for each client.”

Sandra was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. Her professional life began in 1988, when she left her homeland for London, England for formal training in Eastern Bodywork and Swedish Massage. After moving to the United States, in 1994 she continued her training at The Baltimore School of Massage and became certified by the National Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. As a practicing Buddhist, Sandra incorporates the Usui Reiki System of Natural Healing, and in 2001 she became certified in both First and Second Degree Reiki. In 2005, she studied Sivananda Yoga, and received her Teacher Training Certification. In 2011, she studied at the Thai Institute of Healing Arts where she was certified in Advanced Therapeutic Thai Massage and Herbal Medicine. Dr. Katie Zimmerman grew up in Novi, Michigan, and has worked as a Chiropractor since 2004. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and attended Logan College of Chiropractic. She is a licensed Chiropractor in both Michigan and Virginia.

Dr. Zimmerman became interested in Chiropractic following an injury while running cross country and track her freshman year of college. She went to numerous doctors and had various treatments for her back and hip pain with no relief. She eventually ended up at a Chiropractic office which dramatically helped and allowed her function and sleep without pain. After taking several years off from running, she ran several half and full marathons. Following a ski accident in 2018 she has stopped running and now enjoys yoga, biking and long walks.

Dr. Zimmerman enjoys helping her patients live a healthier, pain-free life. She treats every patient as a unique individual. She is a certified health coach, and has a great interest in nutrition and lifestyle changes to improve overall health.
